Falls like ash
On graves and lights
In cemeteries and streets
Of an alien city
What pyre
Gazes across yellow
Bulbs and crosses
Unknown to sleeping warmth
Falling on the fallen on the fallen
Falling across the universe
Falling across the guilty
And the innocent
A moment that will soften
In minutes
Yet still frozen
Looking enviously at heated orange lives
From bars without lovers
Boozers without light
To pass
The graveless and the graved
Walking above the city
Noticing the dead for the first time
As if white paint
Was advertising it
For anxious men
Whose nerves
Echo in ours
And again to the next
Can be remembered on lonely walks
Between two problems
To be forgotten
In the morning's melt
